CAM now includes an updated recycle bin that will give users more control over restoring and recovering accidentally deleted data. The new multi-tier restoration and deletion will enable users to set their own restoration period and even recover items once that period has expired. Additionally, the new improvements will provide a framework to process automated jobs, such as automated document deletions or check-ins.
The advantage that the CAM recycle bin has over the built-in iManage Trash is that CAM supports both a user and administrative configuration for restoring documents in the recycle bin.
In CAM, if you send a document to the recycle bin, you are able to restore that document within a configured period of time, e.g., 7 days. Once the 7-day period expires, the user will no longer see the document in the recycle bin. However, there is an additional configuration where the Service Desk has additional time to restore the document. Again, this is configurable by the firm, but an example is 30 days. So the user can contact the help desk and get the document restored up to that additional time.
We do support the configuration for the number of days the end-user is permitted to restore the documents as well as the number of days the administrators can restore the documents.
Workflow
CAM checks the user's rights on the item being added to the recycle bin.
A backup of the item's metadata and security is made in the database.
The Author/Operator of the item is changed to the admin account.
The item is marked as private with no user access rights.
Explicit security assigned to the document is removed.
In cases where a document has been assigned a large number of explicit security settings, the backup and removal of the security might take a considerable amount of time.

What happens from the Recycle Bin
Restored to its original location by either:
The user who deleted it.
A CAM administrator.
Permanently deleted from iManage either:

When a recycle bin document is deleted, CAM removes the document from the CAM recycle bin and deletes the original file from the iManage system.
