Filtering

Filtering

Filters are available on dashboards and widgets so they can be filtered based on specific data.

Using filters, it is possible to create a custom widget to have a dashboard output detailed information based on the behavior of other dashboards and widgets. A filter will require another dashboard/widget to bring that information to the user interface, while the filter itself limits what data from the dashboard/widget to use.

Types of Dashboards

To make the most out of Filters, it is important to know Dashboards can be four different types: Ad hoc, global, object-specific, and drill-through.

Ad hoc

Ad hoc dashboards are those created for one-off cases, or a dashboard only used for a handful of people. For example, a billing lawyer might have a custom dashboard for his/her most important client or matter for the metrics they want to see.

Global

Global dashboards are those dashboards that are available by role or globally available to everyone. For example a partner dashboard, or the recents and favorites dashboard.

Object-specific

Object-specific dashboards are based on the object and can show when an object is opened. For example, a matter, client, person, or workspace are good examples of objects. Typically, objects have security based on users, groups, or roles.

Drill-through

Drill through are those dashboards/widgets where you might have a different set of KPIs that opens once you click a record from another dashboard. For example, I want to see the people metadata of a matter, so on the matter dashboard, you may have a drill through to a person dashboard or widget showing those people and their metadata of that matter you clicked on.

Default Filters

CAM allows setting default filters for specific dashboards. Terms you may hear are with context and without context.

With Context means, it allows filtering on any column that is supported for users.
There is no limitation based on the current user, but should be for all user metadata CAM supports that is contextually based on the data returned. If the firm wants a report to show documents and we want it to be limited to the current user, there are multiple columns that contain user info that the contextual filter can bring, including but not limited to, Author, Operator, SecurityACL, Owner, etc.

Without Context means if the user chooses not to specify context the parameters can be specified in the value properties within the filter.

Supported parameters are:

     i.) @current_user_id@

    2.) @current_user_email_address@

    3.) @current_user_cognito_id@

    4.) @current_date@

    5.) @current_year@

    6.) @current_month@

    7.) @current_week@
