Enabling Support for Long File Paths

If you are using Windows 10 Anniversary Update (build 1607) or later, or Windows Server 2016/2019/2022, Power Desktop can read and write files with paths that exceed 260 characters via Windows' native long file path support.

To enable long paths in Windows 10/11

  1. Open the Start menu, type "gpedit.msc", and select Edit group policy from the search results to open the Local Group Policy Editor.

  2. In the sidebar, expand Computer Configuration → Administrative Templates → System, and select Filesystem.

  3. In the right-hand pane under Settings, double-click Enable Win32 long paths.

  4. At the top-left corner of the configuration dialog, select Enabled.

  5. Click OK to save your change.
